Psychology GCSE

Course Information

One important aspect of Psychology is the ability to do your own psychological research and conduct experiments. There is no coursework in this specification but you will be required to show evidence of these skills in your exam. This course helps you develop this skill in various lessons, notably in the last module. You will be expected to understand the necessity of formulating precise hypotheses to promote inquiry and the use of scientific methods and techniques that aim for objectivity. You will learn about the distinction between dependent, independent and controlled variables.

Within the course, students will tackle 10 Tutor-marked Assignments and 2 practice examination papers.  These will act as formative assessments to help students understand the level they have reached and the level expected by examiners.

The course is divided into the following nine sections:

  • Introductory Module: Studying Psychology
  • Module One: Memory
  • Module Two: Perception
  • Module Three: Development
  • Module Four: Research Methods
  • Module Five: Social Influence
  • Module Six: Language, Thought and Communication
  • Module Seven: Brain and Neuropsychology
  • Module Eight: Psychological Problems

The course will prepare the Student for the AQA Psychology GCSE specification 8182.
